Was the drone surge of last year just wargames for the current situation in the middle east?

All those drones coming in from the east coast every night last year. Was it all just a secret wargame in preparation for the exact situation that's currently playing out now with Iran? Would explain the level of secrecy around the subject. Like, they're not gonna just admin that 'yeah, we just gaming out a scenario where we're dealing with having to shoot down waves and waves of slow moving drones'
