Has anyone ever reported a fake crash landing?

I was watching a video on Roswell recently (shout out to Why Files!) and it made me think of an idea. What if a small group of people falsely reported that a mysterious craft that was hovering and doing unexplainable manoeuvres has just crashed. Maybe they could throw some fake debris around and they could document the whole thing from a distance? See what kind of people turn up to investigate. Idk maybe it’s not a great idea or maybe it’s been done before. Interested to hear all your takes....
