Legitimate doubt? War with reverse engineering tools

This question has surely arisen in your minds too... if reverse engineering of 'machines' not designed by us humans has reached the level of usability of these same machines, aren't these ongoing wars an opportunity to exploit them when they think of exploiting this technology? Perhaps they just belong in a science fiction museum!
