The Westall UFO Encounter is notable for the number of witnesses and the persistence of their accounts. Many described a silvery, disc-like object moving rapidly and descending toward the Grange, then an undeveloped area near the school. Journalists interviewed students soon afterward, and some witnesses later recalled visits by officials or instructions not to discuss the event. No surviving official explanation has resolved the full episode, and later memories must be weighed alongside the contemporary record rather than substituted for it.

A separate Melbourne-area case occurred in 1993, when Kelly Cahill reported a luminous object and figures near Belgrave in the Dandenong foothills. Investigators later presented accounts from other motorists as possible corroboration, while details involving missing time and physical effects remain contested and are less securely documented than the location and principal witness narrative. The Cahill report should not be merged with Westall simply because both occurred on Melbourne’s outskirts.

Melbourne matters because its suburbs preserve two distinct forms of encounter history: a school-day mass observation with substantial press memory, and a later close-encounter account centered on one family and disputed supporting witnesses. Recent Australian reporting has returned to Westall as surviving witnesses seek records and recognition. The city’s role is specific and geographical, grounded in named suburban sites rather than a claim that metropolitan Melbourne is uniformly anomalous.
