Those related institutions have different legal and administrative roles.
Catholic thought has long addressed creation, nonhuman life, angels, revelation, and humanity’s place in the cosmos. Vatican astronomers conduct mainstream scientific research and have publicly discussed the theological compatibility of extraterrestrial life without claiming its discovery. A scholar’s speculative answer or pastoral reflection is not a doctrinal announcement or evidence that the Holy See possesses secret knowledge.
