Colman Domingo is an American actor, playwright and director whose career runs from regional theater and Broadway to two Academy Award nominations for best actor. In 2026 he co-starred in Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg's science-fiction film about a worldwide revelation of alien contact, and spoke about UFO experiencers while promoting it. That role and those interviews are his only connection to the subject.
Domingo was born Colman Jason Domingo on November 28, 1969, in Philadelphia. He graduated from Overbrook High School in 1987 and studied journalism at Temple University before moving to San Francisco, where he began acting, mostly on stage. He made his Broadway debut in Well in 2005, shared an Obie Award with the ensemble of Passing Strange in 2008 and won a Lucille Lortel Award for his autobiographical solo show A Boy and His Soul. His performance in The Scottsboro Boys earned a Tony nomination in 2011 and an Olivier nomination for the London production in 2014. As a writer he premiered Wild with Happy at the Public Theater in 2012 and Dot at the Humana Festival in 2015, and he wrote the book for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical on Broadway in 2018.
On screen, he had a small part as Private Harold Green in the opening scenes of Spielberg's Lincoln in 2012, then played Victor Strand on AMC's Fear the Walking Dead from 2015 to 2023, directing three episodes. He played Cutler in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Ali on HBO's Euphoria, which won him the 2022 Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama series. His title role as the civil rights organizer Bayard Rustin in Rustin brought a best actor Oscar nomination in 2024, and his performance as John "Divine G" Whitfield in Sing Sing brought another in 2025. He also played Mister in The Color Purple, earned Emmy nominations for Netflix's The Four Seasons and played Joe Jackson in Michael.
Disclosure Day opened in the United States on June 12, 2026, from a screenplay by David Koepp based on Spielberg's story. Domingo plays Hugo Wakefield, the director of biological assets at Wardex, a secretive government contractor, who defects and argues for disclosure, in a cast led by Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor, with Colin Firth as the company's chief executive. The film earned about $241 million worldwide by early August.
During the press tour Domingo described his preparation in a clip shared by UFO accounts. "Steven was sharing a lot of documentary things with me," he said, including interviews with people who said they had experiences, and he asked himself, "Were people lying or are they telling the truth?" He acknowledged that such accounts had sometimes been "debunked" by authorities but argued for taking "everyone's experience as being sincere." The Somewhere in the Skies channel, which covers experiencer stories, published a clip of his reflections on the subject. The film made Domingo, an actor with two Oscar nominations and an Emmy, one of the mainstream performers who spoke seriously about UFO experiencers during the 2026 disclosure debate.
