Greg Bishop is an American writer, zine editor and radio host who has written about UFOs, government deception and the culture of anomalous experience since the early 1990s. He is best known for Project Beta: The Story of Paul Bennewitz, National Security, and the Creation of a Modern UFO Myth, published in 2005 under Simon & Schuster's Paraview Pocket Books imprint, and for the long-running interview program Radio Misterioso.

Bishop came to the subject through Los Angeles small-press and underground radio culture. In 1991 he founded the zine The Excluded Middle with friends Robert Larson and Peter Stenshoel, and Adventures Unlimited Press published an anthology drawn from it, Wake Up Down There!, in 2000. By his own account, his first weekly radio show, The Hungry Ghost, began on the Los Angeles pirate station KBLT in October 1997 and ran until the station was shut down in late 1998. In September 2000 he began streaming Radio Misterioso from the KillRadio studio in Hollywood, pairing long conversations on the paranormal with unusual music. He was also a co-author of Weird California, published by Sterling in 2006.

Project Beta tells the story of Paul Bennewitz, an Albuquerque businessman who from 1979 reportedly filmed lights and recorded radio signals over Kirtland Air Force Base and came to believe aliens operated a secret underground base near Dulce, New Mexico. Bishop's account describes a disinformation campaign that deepened those beliefs before Bennewitz's psychiatric hospitalization. In 1989 the researcher Bill Moore said he had passed false information to Bennewitz, and the former Air Force Office of Special Investigations agent Richard Doty has said he was tasked with feeding fabricated material to UFO researchers. Bishop's book became one of the main published accounts of the affair.

His connection to that history continued after the book. A 1993 interview he recorded with Moore was recirculated online in October 2026 as a rare record of Moore explaining himself. In an April 2026 review of the documentary Saucers, Spooks and Kooks, the author Adam Gorightly was quoted saying he had approached Moore through Bishop, who he believed was still in touch with him. In September 2026 Joe Murgia gathered comments from Bishop and other veteran researchers in a debate over whether a private UFO archive should sell the Pentagon's UAP office access to its historical records.

Bishop has also turned to the place of art in encounter experiences. In late June 2026 he was the main presenter at Power to the Paper: Jailbreaking Disclosure, a Burbank event on UFOs and artistic expression, where he argued that the only experience he could compare with a close encounter was meeting a great artist's work. Across zines, books and radio, his work has dwelt less on what UFOs are than on how belief, deception and personal experience shape the subject, and Project Beta remains his best-known contribution to it.
