Flight of the Triangle: The 1993 Lethbridge Case

Around 12:30 a.m. on August 12, 1993, Vaughn and Lisa reported a dark triangular or boomerang-shaped object moving rapidly south over North Lethbridge.

Lisa described three faint, steady red lights at the object’s points, no audible sound, and an apparent upward turn or flip of about 45 degrees as it disappeared.

A third witness, Terri, reported a similar triangular object from another Lethbridge location around the same time; Thacker wrote that she had not met or spoken with Vaughn or Lisa before his interviews.

Thacker characterized Lisa’s and Terri’s sketches as strikingly similar, particularly their triangular form, three corner lights, and reported twisting or flipping motion.

The resemblance between the two drawings was striking.

The investigation recorded clear conditions, winds near 25 mph, and approximately 25 miles of visibility at Lethbridge during the reported sightings.

Edmonton air-traffic personnel reported no transponder-equipped aircraft flying south over Lethbridge in the requested period, but the nearest primary-radar coverage did not extend over the city and the Lethbridge tower had closed earlier that evening.

Thacker concluded that the available witness, aviation, weather, and astronomical checks did not identify the object, while acknowledging that the investigation could not establish its nature.
