What if aliens are just waiting for us to develop artificial superintelligence? (serious)

What if they don't want to talk to us for the same reason we're not super interested in talking to ants - because we're way too dumb to be interesting (compared to them)? And if that were the case - then if a few years from now (or at some point), what if we develop artificial superintelligence, and THEN aliens show up, and they don't want to talk to us -- they only want to talk to *it*?
