Nicholas Julian Cook is a British aerospace journalist, author and consultant best known for The Hunt for Zero Point, his 2001 account of a decade-long investigation into whether governments secretly developed anti-gravity propulsion. A former aviation editor of Jane's Defence Weekly, he later turned to consciousness research and co-founded the EXO Institute, a forum devoted to what it calls an emerging scientific paradigm that takes in consciousness and anomalous phenomena.
Cook held the aviation editor's post at Jane's Defence Weekly in the 1990s and remained an aerospace consultant and contributor to the journal from 2002 to 2008. He won four journalism awards from the Royal Aeronautical Society, in the defence, business, technology and propulsion categories. Alongside his reporting he wrote the novels Angel Archangel and Aggressor and ghostwrote a number of books, mostly on military subjects. The 1999 Discovery Channel documentary Billion Dollar Secret followed his investigation into secret U.S. military spending and experimental aircraft that may have been mistaken for UFOs, and in 2005 he wrote and presented UFOs: The Secret Evidence, broadcast in the United States as An Alien History of Planet Earth. From 2008 to 2015 he was founder and chief executive of Dynamixx, a consultancy linking the defence industry with climate-change solutions.
The Hunt for Zero Point, published by Century in Britain in 2001 and by Broadway Books in the United States in 2002, traces postwar interest in anti-gravity and centers on Polish writer Igor Witkowski's claim that Nazi scientists built a device known as Die Glocke, or the Bell. Cook proposed that SS official Hans Kammler traded such technology to the U.S. military in exchange for his freedom, and his book introduced the Bell story to English-speaking readers. Reviewers were skeptical: Salon's Kurt Kleiner wrote that the book "strains credulity," and skeptic Robert Sheaffer called it a classic example of spinning an exciting story from almost nothing. Cook has nonetheless been a frequent guest on Coast to Coast AM, and the book is still cited in debates over hidden aerospace programs.
His later work moved toward consciousness. Cook has said that a shared-death experience his wife described in 2014, at her mother's death, prompted him to begin researching the subject, and the research shaped his novel The Grid. His entry in an essay contest Robert Bigelow launched in late 2020, on the best evidence for the survival of consciousness after bodily death, won a $20,000 prize, and Cook has said Bigelow then invited him to become a director at the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies.
That shift defined his 2026 public profile. In March, researcher Joe Murgia circulated Cook's remark that he had "no firm evidence now" but thought that, two decades after his book, "it is possible the antigrav issue has been cracked." In April he discussed on That UFO Podcast the launch of the EXO Institute, which he co-founded with economist Pippa Malmgren, arguing that consciousness, UAP and other anomalous phenomena may be more closely connected than most people realize. In October he gave Jason Samosa a nearly three-hour interview covering anti-gravity, alleged Nazi research, shared-death experiences and consciousness. Cook's career, from defence-trade reporting to consciousness research, has made him one of the few figures in the UAP debate who speaks to both its aerospace-secrecy and metaphysical strands.
