In 1967 Jack D. Pickett, who was the publisher of an Air Force news letter for MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, was asked to do a story documenting vintage experimental aircraft. While looking around the base salvage yard he spotted four circular-wing, saucer-shaped aircraft which he took an extreme interest in.
