Many are asking why Trump can't just fire these people. The reason is that the Smithsonian isn't an executive agency. Its Board of Regents — the Chief Justice of the Supreme court, VP @JDVance, 6 members of Congress, and 9 citizens — appoints Secretary Bunch. Bunch appoints Hartig. Only the Regents can remove him. Vance is 1 of 17. It may be that Congress will need to defund. Props to @timburchett @NancyMace @realBrandonGill and others for the hearing.
