Nancy Mace is an American politician and businesswoman serving in the U.S. House of Representatives from South Carolina. Raised in a military family, she became the first woman to graduate from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets in 1999 and later earned a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She served in the South Carolina House before winning election to Congress in 2020.
Mace entered the national UAP debate during the House Oversight hearing of July 26, 2023. She questioned former intelligence officer David Grusch about alleged recovered craft, “biologics,” funding, and which officials could provide access to further information. Her direct phrasing helped turn abstract claims into questions about named authorities, spending, and evidence that Congress could pursue in classified settings.
She continued pressing for briefings, records, and executive-branch engagement as later hearings and document releases kept the issue alive. Mace’s approach treats UAP oversight as a transparency and national-security problem rather than requiring lawmakers to endorse an extraterrestrial explanation. She has also publicly welcomed presidential moves to release files and asked senior officials to clarify what they know.
By using a visible congressional platform, Mace helped normalize questions that agencies had long deflected or stigmatized. Her exchanges also gave later investigators a concise public record of the specific allegations placed before lawmakers. Hearings can preserve testimony and expose contradictions, but they do not independently verify the claims witnesses bring before them. Her record is strongest as an example of political pressure for UAP disclosure and congressional hearings, not as proof that the alleged programs exist.
