James David “JD” Vance is an American politician, author, and Marine Corps veteran serving as vice president of the United States. Raised in Ohio and Kentucky, he enlisted in the Marines, served as a public-affairs specialist in Iraq, and later graduated from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. His memoir Hillbilly Elegy made him a national figure before he entered venture capital and Republican politics.
Vance won election to the U.S. Senate from Ohio in 2022 and became Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024.
