Alongside the channeling, Anka spent decades working in Hollywood effects departments as a model maker, miniatures artist and storyboard artist. His credits include model work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture and the NBC series Project U.F.O., prop work on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, storyboards for Dragonheart and Red Planet, and miniature effects on The Day After Tomorrow, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Iron Man. Through his production company, Zia Films, he wrote, produced and directed First Contact (2016), a documentary about his life as a channel, narrated by James Woods.
By his own account, Anka saw dark triangular craft at close range on two occasions in the same week of 1973. Both sightings were in daylight, in front of witnesses, in the Los Angeles area. About ten years later he was introduced to a practicing channel and joined a channeling class, where, he says, a telepathic message introduced Bashar. He dates that first contact to 1983, while a 2012 conference paper by the researcher Francesco Baroni puts his first channeling session in 1984. As Anka describes him, Bashar lives on a planet called Essassani, about 500 light-years away toward Orion, in a parallel reality. Bashar is also presented as a future version of Anka. In 2026 clips, Anka described Bashar as a physical extraterrestrial hybrid.
Recordings of the sessions have been made since 1985, and books such as Bashar: Blueprint for Change (1990) carried the teachings in print. YouTube uploads from 2006 onward brought a much larger audience. In that paper, presented at the CESNUR 2012 conference, Baroni called Anka one of the first to combine UFO sightings with vocal extraterrestrial channeling. Baroni compared him to the contactees George Adamski and Billy Meier, and traced Bashar's ideas to New Age spirituality and older esoteric traditions. He also noted that some of Bashar's forecasts, such as a world government between 2011 and 2013, had not come to pass.
In 2026, Anka's newest forecasts spread through short clips. "2026 is the year of disclosure," he said in one. "In 2027 we will be introduced literally to extraterrestrials." He traced his certainty back to the 1973 sightings over Los Angeles. That August, Anka was a guest at Chris Ramsay's It's Probably Nothing live shows on the West Coast, alongside Whitley Strieber, Bob Lazar and the former CIA officer John Ramirez. More than four decades after his first sessions, he remains one of the most widely followed figures in extraterrestrial channeling. His dated predictions have brought a contactee-style message into the 2026 disclosure debate, though they rest on channeled statements and his own sightings, not on any official record.

I find this an interesting story and really enjoyed watching this documentary where Darryl Anka shares his story of his connection with Bashar which he has been channeling since 1983 so almost 42/43 years now.
