Non-human intelligence, often shortened to NHI, is a broad category rather than a confirmed species or single explanation. It can refer to hypothetical extraterrestrial civilizations, artificial agents, unfamiliar terrestrial intelligence, or more speculative forms of agency. In contemporary UAP discussion, the phrase is often preferred to “alien” because it does not assume that an unknown intelligence comes from another planet.
Established science approaches the question through observable signatures. Astrobiology searches for environments and chemistry compatible with life, while technosignature research looks for evidence of technology at astronomical distances. These programs make the existence of intelligence elsewhere a testable research question, but they have not produced a verified detection. NASA states that it has found no credible evidence of extraterrestrial life and no evidence that reported UAP are extraterrestrial.
The term also appears in testimony and documents concerning alleged recovered craft, communications, or biologics and non-human specimens. Those accounts vary sharply in evidentiary status. Some are firsthand descriptions of unusual observations; others are secondhand claims about classified programs. Public records such as the Immaculate Constellation report preserve allegations submitted to Congress, but inclusion in a congressional record does not independently authenticate their extraordinary conclusions.
NHI is therefore most useful when it marks an open question without deciding the answer in advance. A concrete case would require evidence that first excludes human technology, natural phenomena, sensor error, and fabrication, then demonstrates purposeful behavior or biological identity. Until such evidence is publicly available, links between NHI, crash retrieval and reverse engineering, or disclosure remain claims under investigation rather than established facts.

Given the frenzy we are seeing with this video of an alleged multicolored UFO over Tehran, Iran, just imagine if the USG was to release similar quality videos collected over the decades. Just the craft, in high quality. We KNOW they exist. You wouldn't even need to show the non-human occupants and you'd get this must interest and engagement. But of course, that makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
