Dennis Åsberg is a Swedish wreck diver and treasure hunter who, with diving partner Peter Lindberg, runs the salvage company Ocean X Team. He is best known for the Baltic Sea Anomaly, a roughly 60-meter circular formation the team imaged on the floor of the northern Baltic in 2011. Over the following decade and a half he became the find's most persistent public advocate, and by the mid-2020s a recurring Scandinavian voice in international UAP media.
Based in Åkersberga, northeast of Stockholm, Åsberg has spent much of his career searching for wrecks and recoverable cargo. In 2015, Ocean X located a wreck off Arholma that the Swedish Armed Forces identified as most likely the Imperial Russian submarine Som, lost in 1916, and in 2019 the team and an Icelandic partner used a remotely operated vehicle to raise cognac and Bénédictine from the steamer Kyros, sunk in 1917. Åsberg describes himself as Ocean X's chief executive and a founder, and since 2022 he has hosted the Swedish-language podcast Dennis World!.
The anomaly appeared in June 2011, when the team's side-scan sonar recorded a disc-like shape at about 90 meters' depth in the Gulf of Bothnia during a wreck search; return trips in 2012 produced more scans and seabed samples. Åsberg and Lindberg have described equipment failures, right-angled features, and other oddities at the site. Scientists offered conventional explanations. Stockholm University geologist Volker Brüchert found the samples were mostly granite, gneiss, and sandstone and suggested glaciers had carried them there, while other researchers attributed the image to sonar artifacts or a glacial landform.
Interest revived with the UAP debate of the 2020s. Åsberg appeared on Ross Coulthart's NewsNation program in February 2025, returned to the site that summer with podcaster Jesse Michels aboard, and told American Alchemy in November 2025 that a new sub-bottom profile suggested the object sits detached from the seabed. He has worked closely with Swedish astronomer Beatriz Villarroel, who has called the anomaly a strong candidate for a non-human artifact. In August 2026 the two visited a house in the Tallinn suburb of Merivälja linked to a buried object reportedly struck by well drillers in 1969, a case Coulthart featured that month, and Åsberg publicized the hijacking of Villarroel's X account by a phishing campaign aimed at UAP contacts.
Åsberg's significance is that of a field explorer who has kept a contested seabed find in public view and tied it to a new generation of UAP researchers and audiences. His interpretation of the anomaly remains his own: no independent survey has confirmed an artificial structure, and the published analyses of material from the site point to natural geology.
