*SERIOUS* Question; If it was impossible to touch the reactor because of a gravitational forcefield then how did they cut into it while it was active which led to the explosion?

Multiple times Bob Lazar has mentioned this! My question is very simple! If it was impossible to touch the reactor because of a gravitational force field then how did they cut into it while it was active? Also why would they even risk throwing a golf ball at it "apparently goofing around" knowing how dangerous the reactor is. Also considering it was modular and easy to take apart what are they cutting it for?
