Moment of Contact is a documentary directed by James Fox about the 1996 Varginha incident in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Released in 2022 and later expanded with additional material, the film revisits claims that local residents saw unusual creatures, authorities captured something, and military personnel transported evidence. It is an investigative film built around testimony, return visits, and interviews rather than a contemporaneous official case file.
The documentary’s emotional center is the witnesses. Three young women recount seeing a crouched being, and other participants describe unusual military activity or secondhand knowledge of alleged recovery operations. Their testimony documents what they say they experienced and how the event affected them. It does not by itself establish that the figure was non-human or that authorities recovered a craft, especially where interviews occurred decades after the event.
Fox argues that converging accounts support a concealed encounter, while skeptics and official explanations point to mistaken identity, rumor, ordinary military movements, and later embellishment. The public record does not provide independently verified biological material, a craft, or a complete chain of custody. A later request by members of the U.S. House for FBI information about the case shows continuing official interest, but an investigative request is not confirmation of the film’s conclusions.

I agree with skeptics (Shermer is a debunker and not a skeptic) who say all we have is second-hand information on the crash-retrieval program.
