James Fox is an American documentary filmmaker who has spent much of his career recording UFO witnesses and historical investigations. Beginning with projects such as UFOs: 50 Years of Denial? and Out of the Blue, he developed a style built around extended firsthand testimony, archival footage, and travel to locations associated with major cases.
Fox has spent much of his adult career developing a cinematic record of UFO testimony. Films including Out of the Blue, I Know What I Saw, The Phenomenon, and Moment of Contact built progressively larger casts of officials, pilots, residents, and researchers. His method depends on the emotional force of direct interviews and location work. Over time, he moved from surveying the global history to concentrating on individual cases where sustained filming could uncover new witnesses or contradictions.
His later films include I Know What I Saw, The Phenomenon, Moment of Contact, and The Program. They feature military personnel, officials, researchers, and civilians while tracing subjects such as nuclear-site encounters, school sightings, congressional disclosure, and the 1996 Varginha incident. Fox is often sympathetic to witnesses and to the view that authorities withhold important information. The films document what interviewees say; they do not independently prove every event described.
Fox is one of the most influential visual historians of UAP. His importance lies in preserving testimony, finding witnesses, and constructing narratives that carry local or specialist cases into international awareness. Because his documentaries advocate as well as report, their strongest value comes when interviews can be connected to records, locations, and other independent evidence.
