PURSUE UFO Files Release 02 was the second PURSUE tranche of government UFO files, posted to War.gov on May 22, 2026, adding documents and videos to the public portal.
PURSUE UFO Files Release 02 was the second public tranche of UFO files in the 2026 War.gov PURSUE records program. The Department of War posted it to its WAR.GOV/UFO portal on May 22, 2026, two weeks after the collection opened. As elsewhere in the PURSUE archive, each file carried an official title and description, not a finding about what was observed.
The release held 64 files: 51 videos, seven audio recordings and six documents. The Department of War supplied every video and NASA the audio; the documents came from the Energy Department (three), the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of War. Every video description says eight House members had asked on March 6, 2026, for 51 potentially UAP-related records, that AARO found responsive material on a classified network, and that "many of these materials lack a substantiated chain-of-custody." Many titles match the 46 videos Rep. Anna Paulina Luna demanded in a March 31 letter. AARO judged 48 clips likely infrared sensor footage, most from Central Command's region, with titles set by their uploaders. One clip's title describes the February 2023 Lake Huron shootdown by an Air National Guard F-16C. PR057a and PR057b are, AARO said, one January 2023 Yellow Sea clip titled differently by two uploaders, one placing it over the East China Sea; PR075 tracks an object over the East China Sea in 2021. The documents include a 116-page file on 209 sightings of "green orbs," "discs" and "fireballs" near Sandia Base, New Mexico, from 1948 to 1950; a Pantex unidentified-object report with an enhanced radar-tower image; and a senior intelligence official's firsthand account of glowing orbs seen from a helicopter near a military facility in late 2025. The Mercury and Apollo audio describes drifting particles and light flashes, some of which NASA attributed to frozen condensation or the astronauts' own vision.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced "the second release of declassified and historical" UAP files, and the department said more would follow on a rolling basis. CBS News and NBC News featured the Lake Huron footage and the intelligence official's account, in which he wrote that the crew was "virtually speechless after these observations"; CBS noted later reports that the downed object may have been a hobbyist group's balloon. The video descriptions cautioned that they did not reflect an "analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination." UFO historian Richard Dolan called the tranche "substantially stronger than the first."
Release 02 followed Release 01, whose 158 files on May 8 were mostly documents, and brought the archive to 222 files before Release 03 added 72 on June 12. It was the first tranche with Energy Department, CIA and ODNI files, and its 51 videos remain the most in any release through September. Its lasting record is the congressionally requested military footage, including the first public video of the Lake Huron engagement, plus the Sandia file and the official's account of the 2025 encounter, none of which the release resolved.
Every one of the six declassified documents in PURSUE Release 02 came from a nuclear weapons facility. The largest contains the 1949 Los Alamos trip report on the green fireballs over the nuclear weapons complex. Edward Teller's verdict: "not material objects."
