Campo Largo is a municipality in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, about 30 kilometers from the capital of Paraná state in southern Brazil. It covers about 1,244 square kilometers at an elevation near 956 meters and had 136,327 residents in the 2022 census. Founded in 1870 and incorporated as a separate municipality in 1871, it is known as the "Capital da Louça," or porcelain capital, for tableware and ceramics makers such as Incepa, Porcelana Schmidt and Germer.
Beyond its urban core, Campo Largo includes the rural districts of Bateias, Três Córregos, São Silvestre and Ferraria; its farms grow corn, potatoes and beans, and its native vegetation is mixed araucaria forest. The name is traditionally said to describe the wide horizons early settlers saw across pine-covered land. That rural, wooded landscape formed the backdrop to the episode that put the municipality in UFO news in 2026.
On May 31, 2026, Mayk Leão, an animal-rescue influencer who says he cares for about 280 rescued animals on a rural property there, posted footage of what he called a giant spaceship over a nearby ridge, launching the Paraná UFO case. The low-quality video shows a static row of flashing lights; Leão said the object stayed 20 to 40 minutes, described strange sounds and agitated animals, and later sketched it. His following grew from about 40,000 to millions as regional and national television picked up the story. The Brazilian Air Force told g1 its defense radars had detected nothing unusual, and MUFON investigator Elaine Motta said calling it an extraterrestrial object would be premature. On June 4, YouTuber Henrique Pereira of the NaLata Driver channel proposed that the lights came from a nearby campsite, and on June 6 he visited the area and showed, according to the fact-checking outlet Aos Fatos, that the "craft" matched lights switched on there at night. Leão rejected that explanation, saying he had seen other lights.
Aos Fatos traced how the story grew through misleading satellite images, including 2023 Google Earth pictures of objects near Rio Branco do Sul, more than 30 kilometers away, and AI-enhanced "4K" versions of the footage, before fading after the campsite explanation, the air force statement and Leão's June break from social media. For a town better known for porcelain than for sightings, the case became a compact example of how a rural light display, a large social-media audience and rapid translation for English-language forums can turn a local observation into an international UAP story within days.

The video is in Portuguese but has English subtitles. I suspected jeeps from day 2 onwards, as I saw that there are several trails in the region. These vehicles use very bright lights, and I encountered several groups of jeep drivers in the area and neighboring towns.
