Probed Analysis

The Black Vault is a civilian archive founded in 1996 by researcher and ufologist John Greenewald Jr., then aged fifteen, dedicated to collecting and publishing U.S. government documents obtained via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Over its more than two decades of operation, the archive has grown to contain millions of pages—more than 3.8 million documents as of recent tallies—covering areas like UFO/UAP reports, declassified CIA programs like MKUltra, and Cold War intelligence files. Its content is strictly based on FOIA disclosures and other official sources; what The Black Vault presents is what has been released or made public, not hidden or speculative material. It has become one of the largest independent repositories of U.S. government documents related to transparency, secrecy, and unidentified anomalous phenomena.

Greenewald operates the archive personally and frames his mission as apolitical, focusing on government transparency rather than advocacy or theory-building. He has authored books on these topics and contributes regularly to public dialogue by releasing documents that show how agencies handle UAP material—what is released, what is withheld, and why. Recent releases include a DoD Office of Inspector General final report in early 2026 about whistleblower reprisal over UAP disclosures that involved revocation of clearance, and internal guidelines given to witnesses such as David Grusch about how nondisclosure agreements apply during interviews.

The Black Vault’s archive has also prompted public scrutiny of how government agencies respond to FOIA requests, especially in UAP and UFO cases—what legal exemptions are used, what redactions are made, and how much of the decision-making is hidden. The archive draws interest from journalists, academics, and the general public who seek to understand what the U.S. government knows, what it has admitted, and what it keeps private.

In managing its growing collection, The Black Vault faces technical, logistical, and political challenges—restoring servers, preserving metadata, navigating FOIA law. Regardless of ongoing debates over what remains classified, the archive functions as a visible checkpoint in efforts toward disclosure and accountability.

🚨 In 2021, I requested a search of Brennan McKernan's email box for the keyword "Elizondo." The result was one email thread. I felt strongly that was wrong. I appealed based on what I knew, and I just won that appeal. The surprising thing is, is the level of detail the Commander of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, U.S. Navy went to, to investigate and subsequently grant my appeal. I sometimes feel they make a phone call, ask "Did you search?", the other end says, "Yep!" and they deny me....

@RealCandaceO https://t.co/seb31gGJI0 [Quoted] As promised, here is another update that my appeal that I mentioned below to @RealCandaceO is being processed. This is for the "Expedited Processing" denial by the FBI, not a denial of the request itself for Kash Patel's travel records. And yes, I see the irony that I am https://t.co/a0PJutAPfB https://t.co/vA9enqeSSX

As promised, here is another update that my appeal that I mentioned below to @RealCandaceO is being processed. This is for the "Expedited Processing" denial by the FBI, not a denial of the request itself for Kash Patel's travel records. And yes, I see the irony that I am appealing the denial of "expedited processing" and in their response, the DOJ is citing a 2025 closure to their office which will delay my appeal. *sigh* Seems like there is always an excuse to delay, delay, delay... When you feel the need to constantly tell people how amazing and "correct" you are and add in EVERYONE else is "wrong", it only shows two things: 1) Extreme insecurity 2) Extreme egotism And you lost the debate without the other side even having to say a word. https://t.co/tv8XA3lPKO [Quoted] The state of debunker cope https://t.co/ZwDikJKnb8
