George Knapp — Veteran investigative journalist and news anchor for KLAS-TV, known for UFO research and paranormal
George T. Knapp is a veteran American investigative journalist whose career has spanned several decades, centered at KLAS-TV, Las Vegas, where he serves as chief investigative reporter. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey, and raised in California, he completed undergraduate studies in communication at the University of West Georgia and earned a master’s degree from the University of the Pacific. Knapp joined KLAS in 1981 after moving to Las Vegas in 1979, and has also contributed as a radio host—most notably on Coast to Coast AM—and co-hosted the Weaponized podcast with Jeremy Corbell.
Alongside mainstream journalism, Knapp has dedicated much of his work to UFO phenomena, the paranormal, and government secrecy, making him one of the field’s most high-profile reporters.
Knapp’s role in public awareness of Area 51 traces back to 1989, when he first interviewed Bob Lazar, who claimed to have worked at a secretive site (dubbed “S-4”) near Area 51 reverse-engineering extraterrestrial propulsion systems. That series of interviews brought Lazar’s story—and Area 51—into the broader UFO conversation in the U.S. Knapp has also investigated other curious sites such as Skinwalker Ranch in Utah, through his involvement with the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), which was founded by Robert Bigelow. At Skinwalker Ranch, Knapp co-authored Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah with Colm Kelleher, exploring alleged high-strangeness reports there.
His work has been recognized by major awards in broadcast journalism: multiple regional and national Edward R. Murrow Awards, two Peabody Awards, over twenty Pacific Southwest Regional Emmy Awards, and Associated Press Mark Twain Awards for best newswriting, among others. These honors reflect both his conventional investigative work—on politics, crime, environmental issues—and his reporting on anomalous phenomena. Not all of his UFO-related claims are universally accepted; skepticism persists around Lazar’s account, and Knapp’s reporting is often scrutinized.
Still, he is widely acknowledged to approach these topics with thorough documentation, witness interviews, and long-term follow-up.
Public testimony has been part of Knapp’s involvement recently: in a 2025 hearing before a U.S. congressional task force on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), he submitted written testimony in his capacity as a journalist, explicitly distancing himself from being a whistleblower or witness. He framed UFO/UAP cases as a journalistic matter—not one of belief—insisting on collecting evidence, interviewing multiple sources, and disclosing what he has found. His documentary work has also expanded to streaming platforms; Investigation Alien (2024) is one example of his efforts to bring UFO stories to wider audiences.
Knapp matters to disclosure debates because he occupies a space between fringe and mainstream journalism. He has stayed in the public record long enough to shape how UFO and UAP stories are reported—helping move them from fringe claims to subjects consistently covered, investigated, and, to some degree, legislated upon. His insistence on public records, empirical claims, and transparency feed directly into emerging governmental and cultural expectations around disclosure, whistleblowing, and accountability.
Bumping my take on the latest Weaponized with Matthew Brown. is this really self-sabotage, or a staged trap to control the narrative? https://t.co/WGL2LM84Hi [Quoted] 🚨 Knapp & Corbell uncover an #ImmaculateBetrayal: UFO whistleblower Matthew Brown exposes how agencies lure, target & trap those they claim to ‘protect.’ Job loss, financial ruin, smears—no real support. A Constellation of lies. #UAP #WeaponizedPodcast https://t.co/W9zAN1056o

This is an important interview with UAP whistleblower Matt Brown, conducted by Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp. What stands out is not just the testimony, but how whistleblowers are treated and the heavy price these brave individuals pay. It’s painful to hear what Matt has been
Let me preface by saying that regardless of how you feel about Jeremy and George, they are undeniably committed to disclosure and elevating knowledge of the most important topic of humanity. However, they continue to neglect the most fundamental questions when interviewing someone like Matthew Brown. Specifically, the state of our human existence, “God”, and how reality is constructed around us. In his last interview, Matthew only broached the subject of how our reality is warped by those in...
