Alex Caprariello is an American television journalist and a national correspondent for NewsNation, based in Chicago. A general-assignment reporter, he covers national politics, the economy and criminal cases for the network's daytime programs. His only connection to UAP subjects is his reporting from the scene of the disappearance of retired Major General Neil McCasland in early 2026.

Caprariello was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and, according to his station biographies, has also lived in Princeton, New Jersey, Madison, Wisconsin, and Phoenix. He earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business in 2013 and a master's degree in journalism from ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2016. That year he also reported from the Rio Olympics, where his interviews included the basketball players Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie Irving and DeMar DeRozan.

His first professional reporting job began on January 9, 2017, at KNWA and FOX24 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he became weekend anchor and senior reporter. His Arkansas stories included the state's struggle to launch its medical marijuana industry, bribery allegations in a close mayoral race and repeated patient abuse at a treatment center for children. In late 2018 he moved to KXAN in Austin, Texas, and became its lead education reporter, covering K-12 schools through the pandemic. NewsNation credits him with a Lone Star Emmy for "Racism at Westlake," a two-part investigation of alleged racism at a suburban Texas high school, and his report on the cost of in vitro fertilization was a finalist for best television feature in the Society of Professional Journalists' Diamond Journalism Awards.

He left KXAN in September 2021 to join NewsNation as the West Coast correspondent for its new national morning show, Morning in America. In March 2026, about three weeks after McCasland vanished from his home near Albuquerque, Caprariello was the network's reporter on the scene, and Ross Coulthart promoted a question-and-answer segment with him on Reality Check about the latest reports and the unsuccessful search. McCasland, a former commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory, drew intense interest from UFO researchers because Tom DeLonge had named him as an adviser in 2016 emails.

Caprariello's other 2026 reporting kept to general news. Through September and October he explained early voting and record campaign spending before the midterm elections, President Trump's proposal for an "AI Force," the start of a U.S. ban on certain Canadian goods and an Illinois murder case. His part in the UAP record is that of a field correspondent who in March 2026 reported a missing-person story that the UFO community followed closely.
