The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, commonly called the House Oversight Committee, is the principal investigative committee of the United States House of Representatives. Its name has changed across Congresses, but its broad jurisdiction covers federal operations, records, management, ethics, procurement, and executive-branch accountability. The committee can hold hearings, request or subpoena information, and propose legislation within its remit.

Later sessions examined alleged hidden programs, government transparency, and witness accounts. Members also pursued videos, briefings, and access to officials. Those proceedings elevated the issue but did not produce a committee finding that non-human craft or bodies had been recovered.

The committee’s importance lies in turning allegations into questions addressed to named institutions under oath and on the record. Its broad mandate can bridge aviation safety, defense spending, records, and whistleblower treatment, though classified jurisdiction remains fragmented. Durable oversight requires more than a dramatic hearing: document production, protected interviews, bipartisan staff work, precise findings, and legislation capable of changing agency behavior.
