The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the principal domestic intelligence and investigative agency of the United States. It operates under the U.S. Department of Justice, mandated to uphold federal law, protect civil rights, counter national security threats, and support the criminal justice system. Its jurisdiction spans a wide spectrum: counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cybercrime, public corruption, organized crime, violent crime, and major financial crime.
The Bureau’s relevance to UAP or disclosure communities stems from its potential access to classified information, investigatory powers, and role in national security incidents, although no verified public briefing connects it to any specific unique aerial phenomena in the signals currently available.
The FBI comprises thousands of special agents, intelligence analysts, forensic and technical experts distributed across domestic field offices and select overseas attachments. Its leadership is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The agency maintains multiple operational divisions: intelligence, counterterrorism, cyber, criminal, and other specialized units. - national threat assessment, involving both domestic and foreign policy implications;
- coordination with other federal, state, and local law enforcement on criminal and security matters;
- forensic laboratories and technical services for evidence collection and analysis.
There are also reported claims—some in media or congressional testimony—that the FBI may have taken part in UAP–related investigations alongside military or intelligence agencies. These are attributed claims; there is no unambiguous public record tying the FBI to any confirmed UAP incident with publicly disclosed details.
Unresolved questions include whether the FBI holds classified records specifically about UAP, and if so, how those intersect with national security protocols. The public record provides no signals currently confirming FBI involvement in any discrete UAP cases.
