Peter Skafish is an American anthropologist trained at the University of California, Berkeley. His academic work has addressed ontology, translation, and the ways different cultures organize reality and personhood. He has held research and teaching roles and worked across anthropology, philosophy, and public-facing intellectual projects.
Skafish trained in anthropology and philosophy, with work focused on how different cultures organize concepts of personhood, nature, and reality. He later brought that background into projects connecting scholars with people working on anomalous phenomena. Co-founding the Sol Foundation made institution building a major part of his public role. He argues that any serious response to UAP will require not only physics and engineering but language capable of addressing the social, ethical, and conceptual consequences of contact claims.
Skafish co-founded the Sol Foundation with Garry Nolan to support research and policy discussion around unidentified anomalous phenomena. Through conferences, papers, and institutional outreach, the foundation brings together scientists, former officials, scholars, and legal or policy experts. Skafish’s contribution is distinct from aerospace measurement: he asks how institutions, cultures, and concepts of the human may change if extraordinary claims receive stronger confirmation.
The Sol Foundation’s conferences placed Skafish in direct collaboration with scientists, former officials, attorneys, and policy specialists. His role is to keep the human implications from becoming an afterthought to sensor data or secrecy. The organization’s growth made his anthropological perspective part of an emerging professional infrastructure around UAP.
Skafish brought anthropological and philosophical questions into discussions of UAP, asking how institutions and societies might respond if unfamiliar intelligence became an accepted reality. Through the Sol Foundation, he developed ontological shock as a social and political problem rather than simply a reaction to new scientific data. His contribution is the interdisciplinary setting he built around the potential cultural consequences of disclosure.
