The Sol Foundation is a nonprofit research and policy organization established in 2022 by Stanford professor Garry Nolan and anthropologist Peter Skafish. It was created after UAP reporting and legislation moved the subject into formal government debate. The foundation seeks to bring scholars, former officials, technical experts, and policy practitioners into work that can be presented in academic and governmental settings.
Sol organizes symposia, publishes white papers and video presentations, supports research, and develops policy recommendations. Its programs range across scientific methods, national security, law, anthropology, theology, ocean and space domains, and the possible social consequences of disclosure. That multidisciplinary approach treats UAP as both an empirical problem and an institutional one. It also risks moving from unresolved observations to broad implications faster than the underlying data justify, so each project must be judged by its methods and evidence.
The foundation has provided a public platform for officials, journalists, scientists, and alleged whistleblowers associated with UAP disclosure. Its leadership has advocated stronger records review, protection for witnesses, and sustained congressional oversight. Conference testimony and interviews preserve what speakers were willing to state publicly; the foundation’s sponsorship does not independently validate claims about classified retrieval or reverse-engineering programs.
Sol’s importance lies in attempting to create durable intellectual and policy infrastructure around a subject long dominated by episodic media attention. Its affiliations can open doors to expertise and decision-makers, while its proximity to disclosure advocates makes transparent governance and funding especially important. The organization’s long-term standing will depend on whether its publications produce reproducible research, precise legal analysis, and recommendations useful even when the most extraordinary hypotheses remain unproven. Its convening role is itself measurable through the scholarship, partnerships, and policy work that continue after a symposium ends.
