Capella is the UFO case data warehouse Jacques Vallée designed for the Pentagon-funded AAWSAP study, holding about 260,000 reports; it has never been released and drew renewed debate in 2026.
Capella is a data warehouse of UFO and related anomaly reports that Jacques Vallée designed and a small contractor team built for the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program, the Defense Intelligence Agency study run under contract by Robert Bigelow's BAASS. Vallée has described it as a system of linked data "warehouses" holding roughly 260,000 reports from around the world spanning about 70 years, and as the first stage of a three-stage plan for computer-assisted analysis of the phenomenon.
Vallée wrote in 2023 that he joined the BAASS science team and that programmers, analysts, field investigators and translators "worked very hard for two years to implement the first level" of the system. According to an appendix to Skinwalkers at the Pentagon, the 2021 insider account by program manager James Lacatski, Colm Kelleher and George Knapp, its holdings combined the Air Force's Sign, Grudge and Blue Book cases, the UFOCAT catalog of more than 200,000 entries, Brazil's Project Colares files, Canadian and British government releases, pilot reports and cases from Bigelow's earlier research institute and the Utah ranch the group studied. Vallée has said fewer than 10 percent of the cases involved the military.
The warehouse has never been made public. Vallée wrote in The Debrief in January 2023 that Capella, to his knowledge, "remains classified," and argued that an unsupervised release would expose witnesses' medical records and private lives as well as proprietary industrial data. Knapp has reported for KLAS-TV that the program lasted only 27 months of a planned five years and that, although the data was never released, other government entities involved in UFO study use it. Vallée has said the end of BAASS scattered the team and postponed the global assessment it was built for.
Capella became a talking point in 2026. Readers debated passages on its fate in the final volume of Vallée's journal series Forbidden Science, and on the Psicoactivo podcast in July and August, host Pavel Ibarra Meda, researcher Daniel Elizondo and Neon Galactic host James Faulk argued, from what the show called multiple correlations, that the data may already have passed to a private company. In September, on Bigelow's podcast, Vallée, Bigelow and Kelleher discussed the database as unfinished work and how artificial intelligence might analyze its cases, and Bigelow's institute quoted Vallée putting it at 264,000 cases. As the largest known compilation of UFO reports assembled with government money, Capella is central to the open question of what AAWSAP produced and where its data now resides.
[Retweeted] 27OCT2010 — #SkinwalkerRanch Another bullet point from Jacques Vallée’s Capella database. The attached photographs were taken that night. This was the large K9/Wolf encounter I’ve discussed publicly since 2019. Earlier that day, we discovered unusually large K9 tracks along the mesa. That night, while patrolling with our dogs, we noticed tracks appearing behind our own footprints, suggesting something had been following us. Around 0200 hours, we heard a deep, guttural howl and gro...

[Retweeted] October 24, 2010 — Skinwalker Ranch Another entry from Jacques Vallée’s Capella database documenting an incident 16 years ago today. https://t.co/08rhL6UzQ5 The question was simple. Who or what turned it on? Pictures and more context to this particular Capella bullet point. Once we discovered the stove burner had been turned on without a flame, we immediately opened the windows and doors to clear out the doublewide. We briefed Jean and Richard, the ranch caretakers, about what had...

🫣 Do Some Ufologists Ignore Data? 🫣 From the Capella document, based on the work of Vallée, Eric Davis and their six-layer model for anomalous phenomena. " [Quoted] The DIA says the AAWSAP files are missing, so they can’t release them. Lucky for them, I like being helpful. So here are some of the AAWSAP files they’ve misplaced. (I signed no NDA, they leaked from PhenomAInon dot com a few years back) Download at the link below👇 #PURSUE https://t.co/fClTVa6ULW

The workable data is Capella and that is already in the hands of private companies who will monetize it. https://t.co/HwzXWmamTF [Quoted] So, SOL, Galileo, Skywatcher..NOBODY has any workable data?? https://t.co/LynpXFQ304
