Jacques Vallée is a French-American scientist, author, and technology investor whose work bridges astronomy, computer science, and the study of unidentified anomalous phenomena. Born in 1939 in Pontoise, France, he trained in mathematics at the Sorbonne, earned a master’s in astrophysics from Lille University, and completed a PhD in computer science and artificial intelligence at Northwestern University in 1967. Professionally, he helped map Mars for NASA, contributed to early work on ARPANET (a precursor to the modern Internet), and later built a career in venture capital, leading or co‐founding several funds, including those known as Euro‐America Ventures and NASA’s “Red Planet Capital.” These investments supported dozens of high‐technology and biotech startups—some reaching public markets or high‐impact acquisitions.

Vallée’s role in UFO/UAP research emerges from an early fascination: as a youth he reported sightings of aerial phenomena near his home in France, and later claimed to witness (in 1961) what he believed to be the erasure of satellite tracking data from an object orbiting Earth under mysterious circumstances.
