Jacques Vallée's seven-volume published journal covering 1957 to 2025, a first-person record of six decades of UFO research, scientific work and private programs; the final volume appeared in 2026.
Forbidden Science is the published journal series of Jacques Vallée, the French-born astronomer, computer scientist, venture investor and UFO researcher. Its seven volumes present edited diary entries written between 1957 and 2025, recording his scientific career, Silicon Valley ventures and decades of conversations with researchers, officials, witnesses and the private funders of UFO investigation. The series reads as a running record rather than an argument, and much of its interest lies in dated entries about people and programs that rarely appear in official documents.
The first volume, covering 1957 to 1969, was published by North Atlantic Books in 1992 and follows Vallée from astronomy in Paris to his close association with J. Allen Hynek, the scientific consultant to the Air Force's Project Blue Book. Later volumes arrived over the next three decades: California Hermetica (1970–1979), On the Trail of Hidden Truths (1980–1989), The Spring Hill Chronicles (1990–1999), Pacific Heights (2000–2009) and Scattered Castles (2010–2019), which moves from a classified research project Vallée had recently joined to field investigations in South America, Europe and Russia. Anomalist Books later reissued the early volumes and published the last three. The seventh and final volume, Final Report, covering 2020 to 2025, was published in 2026.
Final Report drew wide attention in 2026. Excerpts circulated online describe Luis Elizondo and Garry Nolan seeking research funding from Peter Thiel in 2022 and leaving without it, and readers debated passages on the fate of the Capella case database Vallée built during the Pentagon-funded AAWSAP study. In a September 15, 2026 interview with Ross Coulthart on NewsNation's Reality Check, Vallée described an account from a longtime contact he calls "Gilbert," who said he had been taken to a laboratory inside a mountain to communicate with a living non-human entity; Vallée said he had "no way of testing" what Gilbert told him.
The journals form one of the longest first-person records of the UFO field, running from the era of Project Blue Book to the congressional and Pentagon programs of the 2020s. Researchers mine them for dates, meetings and names, and their passages regularly become news when a new volume appears. Because many entries record what others told Vallée in private, the series documents claims and conversations rather than confirming them, but as a whole it traces how the modern UFO research community formed around a small circle of scientists, officials and funders.
Jacques Vallée's Final Report: 60 Years of UFO Secrets & Science
Jacques Vallée says “Gilbert” helped communicate with an alleged nonhuman entity in a concealed U.S. laboratory. David Grusch alleges interactions with detained recovered occupants and links a former Cabinet member to Dick Cheney. Hal Puthoff and John Petersen describe a Bush-era crash-retrieval disclosure exercise. Their timelines may overlap, but Vallée now says Gilbert’s entity was a volunteer. Are these glimpses of one concealed program or stories circulating through an interconnected UAP...
my latest chat with Nick Cook about secret branches of science, and how UAP research is causing some very uncomfortable conversations for people running black projects.

- Forbidden science 7: that UFOs/ the Phenomenon are some sort of advanced virus - UFO might not be spacecraft at all (“Demensions” page 253) - UFOs sometimes deliberately kill people (stated in a podcast April 2025) - That the US military has known holographic hoaxing technology (interview from 1986) - Maybe just his general over reliance on people’s personal stories

[Retweeted] so to add some historical context, jacques has actually discussed the 1952 material publicly for years, including in forbidden science and on rogan in 2020 together with james. his source was art lundahl, who told jacques that material had been recovered following the washington incident and was reportedly examined by the national bureau of standards. as to where it went afterward, there are differing stories involving alvin moore and wilbert smith, with smith describing a fragmen...

Jacques Vallée says a longtime contact was taken into a laboratory inside a mountain and asked to communicate with a living nonhuman being. During the same interview, Vallée says he once came face to face with a similar entity himself. Both accounts came up in his September 15 conversation with @rosscoulthart on Reality Check, discussing the final volume of his journals, Forbidden Science 7. The contact is identified as “Gilbert,” a pseudonym Vallée uses to protect someone he has known for ye...

In this episode of "Reality Check," Ross Coulthart sits down with Dr. Jacques Vallée, the astrophysicist, computer scientist and venture capitalist whose seven-volume "Forbidden Science" diaries have shaped UAP research for six decades. They discuss the final volume, "Forbidden Science 7." Vallée describes the data warehouse of some 260,000 sightings he built for the Bigelow Aerospace project funded by the Defense Intelligence Agency, why the work was cut off after roughly three years before...
