The Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE, is a federal records-release initiative administered by the Department of War. Announced in 2026, it was presented as a government-wide effort to find, review, declassify where possible, and publish historical and recent material concerning unidentified anomalous phenomena. The portal presents the releases as an expanding series rather than a one-time archival dump.
PURSUE releases are organized through the WAR.GOV/UFO portal. The collections include historical memoranda, case records, imagery, digital witness renderings, and videos supplied by multiple agencies. Each release carries agency and date metadata, allowing individual files to be examined as records rather than as a single narrative. That structure makes the program directly relevant to UFO records and FOIA and transparency, although PURSUE is an executive release process rather than a conventional FOIA response.
Publication does not mean that the government endorses every description or interpretation inside a file. Some records preserve witness statements, preliminary labels, or unresolved assessments; others contain later analytic updates. A digital rendering of a reported triangle, for example, documents what a witness described, not an independently photographed craft. The portal’s value lies in provenance, metadata, and public access to the underlying record.
PURSUE is significant because it centralizes material that was previously scattered across agency repositories or unavailable to the public. Its measure of success is not the volume of sensational files but the completeness of agency searches, clarity of redactions, preservation of context, and release of usable originals. Those questions connect the initiative to broader UAP disclosure while keeping declassification separate from confirmation of extraordinary claims.
