The Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program is the name publicly associated with Pentagon work on unidentified aerial phenomena after 2017 reporting by The New York Times. Luis Elizondo said he led the effort within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence until resigning in 2017. Defense statements later acknowledged UAP-related work while disputing aspects of his role and the program’s formal status.
AATIP is frequently conflated with AAWSAP, the documented 2008–2012 DIA contract awarded to BAASS. Official historical accounts say AATIP was not a formal funded program equivalent to AAWSAP, while participants describe a continuing portfolio of activity under the AATIP name. The distinction affects budgets, authorities, deliverables, and what can be verified through records.
Public AATIP history includes military cases, threat analysis, and the path by which Navy videos and witness accounts reached wider attention. Luis Elizondo and Christopher Mellon helped turn that work into public advocacy. That specificity makes the public account of UAP programs more accurate without erasing documented informal work.

Reading through Jay Stratton's book. Really nothing terribly new if you've read earlier books by Leslie Kean, Ross Coulthart, and Lou Elizondo. Question I have is who was in charge at AAWSAP and particularly AATIP? Lou has said he was in charge, DOD denied it, Harry Reid issued what sounded like a weak endorsement of Lou's claim, IIRC.
