Marco Rubio is an American Republican politician and diplomat who represented Florida in the U.S. Senate from 2011 until becoming secretary of state in 2025. In the Senate he served on the Select Committee on Intelligence and at times chaired the panel, giving him oversight of intelligence collection, classified programs, and threats to U.S. security.

Rubio’s political biography began in local government and the Florida legislature before his election to the Senate in 2010. The son of Cuban immigrants, he built a national profile through foreign-policy, intelligence, and presidential politics, eventually becoming one of his party’s leading voices on China and the Western Hemisphere. His move to the State Department placed the former congressional overseer inside the executive branch, where diplomatic relationships and allied intelligence became part of his responsibility.

Rubio was one of the earliest senior lawmakers to discuss military UAP reports in direct national-security terms. He spoke publicly about objects operating near restricted airspace and supported legislation requiring the intelligence community to produce the 2021 preliminary assessment. He has also said that multiple people with high-level clearances came forward with extraordinary claims, while stopping short of publicly confirming those claims himself.

Rubio connects UAP oversight to intelligence legislation and, later, U.S. diplomacy. His importance lies in making reporting mandatory and in acknowledging that credible officials had approached Congress. He is not a firsthand witness to anomalous craft. As secretary of state, his current office broadens the relevance to international records and allied information-sharing, but any new disclosure still depends on what is actually released and attributable.
