In early 2026, Pope disclosed that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer that has metastasized to his liver, describing the condition as terminal and stating that he “can’t beat it.” He issued this diagnosis from his home in Tucson, Arizona. His announcement expresses gratitude—not regret—for his life’s work, and a hope that he has “helped move the needle forward” in the UAP/UFO field.
