Reed Summers is an American UAP advocate and organizer who serves as director of strategy at the Human Institute, a nonprofit that describes its mission as evidence-based research and public education on unidentified anomalous phenomena and possible non-human intelligence. He hosts the EMERGENT podcast and is one of the organizers of the UAP Detection and Tracking Summit. His public argument is that civilian groups should build their own sensor networks and shared data rather than wait for governments to explain the phenomenon.

Summers is the son of Marshall Vian Summers, founder of the New Message from God, a religious movement based in Boulder, Colorado, whose Allies of Humanity books describe an extraterrestrial "Intervention" in human affairs. Reed has assisted his father, particularly with the movement's communications. In October 2026 the Psicoactivo podcast discussed both men in an episode about proselytism in ufology.

The summit he helped organize ran on February 7 and 8, 2026, billed as an international, civilian-led event unaffiliated with any government. Summers gave the opening and closing remarks with Rich Hoffman of the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies, moderated sessions and took part in a closing roadmap session. Speakers included Rep. Eric Burlison, Stanford pathologist Garry Nolan, astronomer Beatriz Villarroel, historian Richard Dolan and Philippe Ailleris of the European Space Agency. Previewing it on That UFO Podcast, Summers and Hoffman argued that leaked military footage had reached its limits and that transparent, multi-sensor data was needed.

In March 2026 he took that case to NewsNation's Reality Check, telling Ross Coulthart about efforts to centralize and analyze civilian sighting reports at scale and to counter disinformation campaigns around disclosure. On X he wrote that if governments would not give the public a clear picture of UAP activity and intent, civil society would have to build one through independent detection and shared data. By late September the Human Institute had launched the UAP Coalition, a civilian-led international effort under the slogan "Data drives disclosure," with a public roadmap and a second summit planned for 2027. He also co-hosts a livestream with Ted Roe of UAPMED, which in April interviewed the neuroscientist Julia Mossbridge about human cognition.

Summers does not treat the phenomenon as benign. In a 2025 interview recirculated in August 2026, he said: "In my view, there absolutely is an adversarial actor in our world. There is a human-engagement program underway." In June, responding to a discussion of abductions, he wrote that the Human Institute stood "ready and willing" to take up the question of what was happening to people. He has become one of the more visible organizers trying to turn civilian sensing, reporting and data-sharing into a coordinated network.
