The Disclosure Project is an advocacy initiative founded by physician Steven Greer to gather testimony about UFOs, secrecy, and alleged classified programs. It became nationally prominent with a May 2001 press conference at the National Press Club, where former military, government, and contractor personnel described experiences and called for congressional hearings.
The project records interviews, organizes events, publishes documents, and promotes witness protection and disclosure. Its archive preserves first-person claims that might otherwise disappear. Vetting depth, access, and corroboration vary, and assembling many testimonies does not make each account independent if witnesses share sources or interpretive communities. The project’s public identity was established by the May 2001 National Press Club event, where former military, government, aviation, and contractor witnesses offered short statements. It later assembled longer interviews and briefing materials. The archive is historically important, although testimony varies in proximity to the alleged events and in the availability of documents, contemporaneous records, or independent witnesses. Its later cultural impact also reflects repeated circulation of selected clips, sometimes detached from the witnesses’ fuller statements and original event chronology.
Disclosure Project witnesses have alleged crash retrievals, reverse engineering, nuclear-site incidents, and suppression. Those claims helped shape the modern UAP disclosure movement. Public testimony establishes what a witness asserts and may identify investigative leads; it does not by itself authenticate classified programs or material.
The project’s institutional legacy is the deliberate creation of a public witness record before government hearings normalized the subject. Its advocacy also advances Greer’s broader interpretations, which remain contested. The archive is most useful when service records, documents, dates, and independent witnesses can be connected to each statement.
