Abduction and contact describes reported encounters in which a person believes they communicated with, met, or was taken by nonhuman beings. Contactee narratives often present deliberate communication and spiritual or political messages; abduction accounts more often involve missing time, paralysis, involuntary transport, medical procedures, or lasting distress. Grouping them together captures a shared claim of interaction while preserving their very different emotional and historical forms.
The benevolent contactee movement grew during the 1950s, when figures such as George Adamski described humanlike visitors warning about nuclear weapons. The modern abduction template took shape through the Betty Hill and Barney Hill case, then expanded through hypnosis, popular books, and investigators including John Mack. Later experiencers such as Whitley Strieber blended trauma, ambiguity, and spiritual transformation rather than offering a simple extraterrestrial narrative.
The principal evidence is testimony, sometimes accompanied by reported marks, multiple witnesses, medical complaints, or unusual memories. Research in psychology and neuroscience has examined sleep paralysis, hypnopompic hallucination, dissociation, expectation, and suggestive memory-recovery techniques as pathways by which vivid experiences can be interpreted and elaborated. These mechanisms can explain important portions of the literature without proving that every witness had the same experience or was consciously inventing it.
Specific cases such as the Pascagoula Abduction retain value because contemporaneous statements, witness behavior, and later recollections can be compared. Contact and abduction remain culturally influential because they move the UFO question from distant observation into identity, bodily autonomy, religion, and trauma. No publicly verified physical record has established a nonhuman abduction program, but the experiences have had measurable consequences for the people and communities who report them.

Two experiencers I've heard that describe reptilians has been Jim Sparks and Leah Haley.
