John Michael Godier is an American science fiction author, science communicator and futurist who makes YouTube documentaries about the Fermi paradox, future technology and the possibility of advanced extraterrestrial life. He also hosts Event Horizon, an interview program with astronomers, physicists and researchers in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. His UFO relevance is recent and comes through that show: in 2026 he devoted a run of episodes to the Pentagon's UFO file releases and to how scientists might study unidentified anomalous phenomena.

Born in the mid-1970s, Godier began as a novelist, publishing The Salvagers and Rescue at Io in 2013 and Supermind in 2017. His personal YouTube channel, created in 2016, releases documentary videos on science, future technology and "the mysteries of the universe," and it had about 481,000 subscribers as of October 2025.

Event Horizon, whose YouTube channel dates to 2018, had about 325,000 subscribers by October 2025. Its guests have included Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek, former NASA chief scientist James Green and Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb, and Godier debated the Fermi paradox with Universe Today publisher Fraser Cain in 2019. Through 2026 the show stayed close to that core, with Cain returning in March to discuss why intelligence may be rare in the universe, and with episodes on hypothetical alien "lurker" probes with Paul Gilster of Centauri Dreams, and on technosignature searches that now include UAP alongside megastructures and interstellar artifacts.

The UFO turn came on May 28, 2026, when the video researcher UAP Gerb joined Godier to discuss the Pentagon's new UAP document and video releases, alleged crash-retrieval and reverse-engineering programs, David Grusch's whistleblower claims and Representative Eric Burlison's effort to obtain possible UAP records from MITRE. In July Godier interviewed retired Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet about ocean exploration, objects detected by submarines and the sensors needed to study UAP. In August he recorded two episodes with astronomer Beatriz Villarroel on her search for unexplained transients near Earth, and on September 17 scientists Jacob Haqq-Misra and Ravi Kopparapu argued that missing sensor data makes many of the government's released cases impossible to resolve.

Godier comes to UFOs from astronomy and SETI rather than from ufology, and his 2026 episodes reflect that: researchers of alleged secret programs appear on the same channel as scientists who question what the Pentagon footage can show. That mix took the government's file releases to an audience built over a decade on mainstream astrophysics, cosmology and the long-running debate over why no alien civilization has yet been found.
