CE-5, short for “Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind,” is a practice whose participants attempt to initiate contact with non-human intelligence. Steven Greer and the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence developed and promoted the term beginning in 1990, extending J. Allen Hynek’s encounter scale from observation to deliberate human outreach. Organized expeditions and local groups use the method in the field, usually at night and away from dense city lighting.
The protocol blends consciousness practices with ordinary observation. Participants meditate, try to establish a calm or coherent group state, visualize their position on Earth, direct an invitation outward, and watch for a response. Some sessions add flashlights, lasers used under explicit aircraft-safety restrictions, tones, or radio equipment. Greer’s manuals and films describe unusual lights, movement, bodily sensations, and synchronicities as possible contact. Adherents often treat intention itself as part of the mechanism rather than merely preparation for observing the sky.
CE-5 differs from passive abduction and contact narratives because the witness claims agency and repeatability. That also creates a testable burden the public record has not met. Night-sky lights can be aircraft, satellites, tumbling objects, astronomical sources, insects, or camera artifacts; an apparent response after a signal may be coincidence or selection from many observations. Personal testimony and videos can document what participants experienced, but no controlled, independently replicated study has established that the protocol summons or communicates with non-human intelligence.
The practice is nevertheless influential. It moved contact claims from isolated experiencers into a participatory movement, created a commercial network of expeditions, apps, workshops, and films, and helped join UAP culture to meditation and spiritual transformation. The documentary CE5: The New Frontier of Contact presents the method through that worldview. Evaluating CE-5 requires keeping two questions separate: whether structured group observation can generate meaningful personal experiences, and whether the observed stimulus came from an intentional non-human source. The first is amply attested by participants; the second remains an extraordinary, unverified attribution.

First off, this ce5 stuff is real. I haven't done it myself, but know telepathic communications with them is a thing.
