A portal, in UFO and paranormal claims, is a supposed gateway to another realm, an idea revived in 2026 when Ross Coulthart said he had visited a guarded portal site in the US.
In UFO and paranormal discourse, a portal is a claimed opening through which beings, craft or people pass between ordinary space and another dimension, realm or distant place. The idea overlaps with the interdimensional hypothesis, which treats some encounters as contact with another reality, and borrows language from physicists' traversable wormholes, but no portal has been documented. The word is used loosely, for a fixed site, an area of repeated reports, or a spot where witnesses say a light or figure appeared and vanished.
Its modern roots lie in writers who doubted that UFOs were simply spacecraft from other planets. Jacques Vallée's Passport to Magonia (1969) argued for a "parallel universe co-existing with our own," and John Keel's UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse (1970) proposed nonhuman "ultraterrestrials" staging encounters. Government interest touched the physics version: the Defense Intelligence Agency's Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program commissioned the physicist Eric Davis to write "Traversable Wormholes, Stargates, and Negative Energy," one of its reference papers. At Skinwalker Ranch, owner Brandon Fugal said in August 2026 that a spiritual experiment on the property suggested "we may very well indeed be looking at portals."
The idea's 2026 prominence came chiefly from Ross Coulthart. In remarks circulated in early March, the journalist said he had visited a guarded "portal" site in the United States, fenced and posted with security signs and officially explained as the Forest Service protecting archaeological ruins; he rejected that account, saying, "You know what it's not." He later relayed unnamed witnesses' accounts that people there passed through walls and warned that anyone trying to visit would face lethal force. He named no site and offered no evidence, and the researcher Joe Murgia asked publicly whether Coulthart had seen the portal himself. In May, Representative Lauren Boebert said "there are things that we have seen that could resemble portals," calling the matter spiritual.
In general relativity a traversable wormhole requires exotic negative energy that has never been produced in useful amounts, and when the Pentagon reissued 37 of the AAWSAP papers in September 2026 it called them reference and synthesis products, not validation of the concepts. The portal idea endures because it accounts for the sudden appearances and disappearances witnesses describe without requiring interstellar travel. Its 2026 revival rested on a journalist's account of an unnamed site and unnamed witnesses and on a lawmaker's description of unspecified material, and no specific portal site has been identified publicly.
Newly released Pentagon UFO files have revealed extraordinary witness accounts of seven-foot creatures, mysterious lights, and an alleged portal to another world near Utah's infamous Skinwalker Ranch.
When examining the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) subject, the public conversation often defaults to the traditional "extraterrestrial nuts-and-bolts" hypothesis—advanced physical craft traveling here across interstellar space. However, many prominent researchers, investigative journalists, and government insiders close to the topic suggest a far stranger, trickster-like reality. Instead of physical visitors from distant planets, what if the phenomenon operates more like a deceptive,...

The Pentagon released a new batch of declassified UFO documents on Friday, including an investigation into mysterious portals and creatures near America's famous paranormal hotspot.
