EG&G, founded as Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier, was an American defense and technical-services contractor best known for instrumenting the United States' nuclear weapons tests and for running classified support operations in Nevada. Its founders were the MIT electrical engineer and high-speed photography pioneer Harold Edgerton and two of his graduate students, Kenneth Germeshausen and Herbert Grier. In UFO history the company matters chiefly because it flew the Janet shuttle to Area 51 and because Bob Lazar has said he was hired through it.

Edgerton and Germeshausen began consulting together in 1931, and Grier joined them in 1934. Their high-speed photography was used to image implosion tests for the Manhattan Project in 1945, and their precisely timed, high-power electrical pulses became a key technology for nuclear weapon triggers. The firm incorporated in 1947, became a prime contractor to the Atomic Energy Commission and photographed and recorded nuclear tests, with cameras such as the rapatronic, which Edgerton and colleagues developed. In the 1950s and 1960s it managed and operated the Nevada Test Site alongside the national laboratories. In 1999 its commercial side took the PerkinElmer name, and its government-services business, after a period under the Carlyle Group, was bought by URS Corporation in 2002. URS retired the EG&G brand at the start of 2010.

A CIA history of the A-12 reconnaissance aircraft records that on September 10, 1959, EG&G agreed to move its radar test facility to the former U-2 site at Area 51, where the aircraft's radar cross-section was measured on a mock-up mounted on a pylon. The earliest known Janet flights were operated by EG&G from 1972, carrying workers from a terminal at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas to Groom Lake and other restricted sites in Nevada and California.

Bob Lazar has said since 1989 that the physicist Edward Teller recommended him to EG&G, which handled his hiring, and that he was flown from Las Vegas to Groom Lake and on to the alleged S4 site in 1988 and 1989, although his actual employer was the US Navy. EG&G said it had no records of him, as did Los Alamos National Laboratory, according to reporting by George Knapp. In April 2026, posts on X and Reddit quoted Rich Towsley, described as an EG&G Janet pilot from 1987 to 1991, as saying he periodically flew Lazar and Dennis Mariani, whom Lazar has named as his supervisor at S4, to and from work.

In written testimony to the House Oversight Committee in September 2025, Knapp said that Al O'Donnell, whom he described as the first general manager of EG&G's Las Vegas operation, had privately told him he helped secure a crashed flying saucer, most likely in 1953, at Indian Springs before it was moved toward Groom Lake, and that a different version of the story later emerged. EG&G's documented work, from cameras at nuclear shots to the radar range at Groom Lake and the Janet terminal, made it one of the contractors most closely tied to the Nevada sites at the center of modern UFO lore.
