Not For Disclosure: UFOs: The World's Best Kept Secret is a 2026 book by Jonathan Caplan KC, a senior London criminal barrister who says he has studied UFOs for more than fifty years. Century, an imprint of Penguin Random House UK, published the 288-page hardback on 11 June 2026, with a paperback listed for June 2027. The publisher calls it "the most serious and rigorously sourced book ever published on UFOs," and quotes praise from Jacques Vallée, Talk TV and the Daily Mail.
Caplan argues that the United States and other governments have concealed recovered non-human craft and biological remains for decades behind a long-running secrecy structure. He draws on interviews he says he conducted with researchers such as Stanton Friedman, John Mack and Steven Greer, on confidential contacts he does not name, and on Majestic-12 papers that passed through the researcher Tim Cooper and whose provenance is disputed. Caplan matches those papers to a documented meeting of President Truman and Defense Secretary James Forrestal on 24 September 1947, which shows the meeting happened but not what was discussed, and he reproduces a photograph of a luminous saucer whose origin he concedes is impossible to check. Readers quoting the book in 2026 relayed its accounts of former Canadian defence minister Paul Hellyer on visiting species and its suggestion that crashes described by the Israeli general Haim Eshed might be among those David Grusch cannot discuss.
Reviews were mixed. Bryan Appleyard, reviewing it in The Spectator alongside a sceptic's book, wrote as a non-believer but called it "the most persuasive defence yet of the cover-up theory" and "thorough and relentless." A review on the science-fiction site SF Crowsnest found it readable but repetitive on historical cases, short of photographs and inconsistent in its counts of alien species, and noted the lack of any account of what the visitors want. No government has confirmed the recoveries, documents or contact events the book describes.
Caplan promoted the book through the summer of 2026, including on NewsNation's Reality Check with Ross Coulthart and on That UFO Podcast, where he argued that UFOs could be proven in court beyond reasonable doubt. In August, Reddit posts promoting the book contrasted it with the five tranches of UAP files released under President Trump's order, calling those releases mundane. Its author's standing at the bar carried it from UFO podcasts to The Spectator and NewsNation, unusual reach for a book arguing that governments hold recovered craft.

Imagine if a sighting like Rev. William Gill’s were to occur today to a Catholic priest. A sighting that involved the priest and dozens of eyewitnesses, all possibly seeing a craft up close… but more importantly, interacting using hand gestures (or the mind) with the visible occupants of the craft, and for hours on end. Super excited and happy to receive my signed copy of Jonathan Caplan's extremely interesting book "Not for Disclosure"! Tonight I'll start diving into this goldmine. As usual, it arrived just like about half of my international mail and packages over the past few years -- broken or already opened.
A couple statements from Jonathan Caplan near the end of Not For Disclosure: 1. Disclosure must come one day. It would be wise to make sure it is controlled and made with foresight. 2. We appear to be on the fringe of a larger community to which we have not yet been introduced. Regarding 1, I’m not so sure that is possible any longer. And regarding 2, the universe is teeming with life. It’s time we joined the ranks.
These two statements from Haim Eshed's post-book release interview are in line with what we know already via the UFO lit, experiencers and insiders. Intriguing: 1. Aliens do not belief in religion but instead believe in deciphering the fabric of the universe which is mathematics. 2.
