FBI-UAP-D024, FD-302, “Airborne Lights and Triangle,” 2002, 2023-2024

An FBI FD-302 records a pilot’s accounts of recurring distant white lights observed on multiple flights in 2023-2024 and a separate large triangular silhouette seen over Bagram in 2002. The interview distinguishes reported observations from the witness’s interpretations and notes that the source footage did not establish the lights’ identity.

Probed Assessment

Key takeaways

  • An interviewee told FBI agents that pilots had repeatedly reported unusual lights in the sky beginning in October 2023.
  • One account placed lights northeast of an aircraft flying from Boston toward Dublin, in the direction of Gander, Canada.
  • The witness reported seeing between one and four lights at a time.

Why it matters

This 3-page official record adds page-located primary-source material to the public history represented in Release 05. Its value lies in what the document records, not in independent confirmation of every reported event or estimate.

Corroboration

The assessment is grounded in the official PDF, reviewed page text, and faithful source excerpts. Statements attributed to witnesses or agencies remain source claims unless separately corroborated in the record.

Open questions

  • Which reported observations or technical estimates can be independently corroborated from contemporaneous records?

Probed separates this editorial assessment from the source claims below. It summarizes what the released artifact supports; it is not independent verification.

Official Description from War.gov

This document is an FBI FD-302, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses to record interviews. This FD-302 records a March 2024 interview with a former U.S. military pilot, in which the interviewee describes several incidents potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in 2023 and 2024. The interviewee also recalls a 2002 incident potentially involving UAP, while deployed as a military reservist in Afghanistan. An FBI digital rendering based upon the observer’s description accompanies this document, under the title FBI-UAP-D025.
