NASA-UAP-D016: Preliminary Gemini 4 Crew Debriefing, Part I, 1965
This released document records that although all the material contained in this transcript has been edited, the urgent need for the preliminary transcript by mission analysis personnel precluded a thorough editorial review prior to its publication. The file preserves the source account or analysis but does not independently establish interpretations beyond the cited record. This document is useful as an officially released artifact because it preserves the file's provenance and lets its claims be compared with related Release 03 records.

I think, because there had been some lack of information on GT-43, that it some- how had been written into the SEDR so that we were also on the Booster Test Conductor's MOPS, so that we were also getting his coumitdown.

Unfortunately, because the booster was tumbling in this screwy manner, I couldn't maneuver around the booster because it was tumbling so fast; I was just trying CONABDENTIAL

It turned out that this is just the way they came up, and I was good for both of them except for the tail end of the first run through, I logged in two small end passes through the South Atlantic Anomaly.

All the stuff in the flight plan such as the Orbit Navigational Checks and the Apollo Landmark Investigation were not done.

I think that we ought to divide it up into those three phases--the station-keeping and EVA as Stage 1, general orbit as Stage 2, and retro-preparation and reentry as Stage 3.

For closing rates at rendezvous, I think you could handle 20, 30, 40 feet/second if you are coming eat it, not if you are going away from it.

Here again, I might comient on the fart that our initial flight plan was so optimistic that it was almost unbelievable.

I think that this previous bunch of words just spoken covers a lot of detail, of the first three or four orbits of our flight, and it covers CONABENHAL

But I wasn't really sure — how far away I was so I did thrust a couple of times--a foot/second or so--to make sure I always had a closing velocity with it.

Anyway, I had decided by that time that if we were going to do the mission at all, the only thing we could do would be to leave the booster.

I guess the spacecraft was out-gassing at a sufficient rate to cause a reasonably large pressure differ- ential from inside to outside, and it was cer- tainly relieving itself.

The way the cam- era was mounted on there, I had to use both hands —- one hand to actually stabilize it with the gun and the other hand to reach over.

Ed White described seeing sparkles everywhere that resembled an artificial starlit sky during Gemini 4.
White: sparkles everywhere. And it looked like almost a starlit sky, but it just didn’t quite look right to me; it looked like an artificial starlit sky.
